When Geraldo Rivera decided to comment on the Trayvon Martin case, the former controversial show host apparently didn’t realize his old TV antics wouldn’t survive Twitter — his off vocalizations have transformed into #geraldoapologies.
Working for Fox News, Rivera started,
I am urging the parents of black and Latino youngsters particularly to not let their children go out wearing hoodies.
He continued,
I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was.
At a time when states like Florida have given “average” citizens a literal license to kill based on their “suspicions” under the “Stand Your Ground law,” Rivera seems to think his and others’ prejudices are justified.
And people on Twitter are done!
Here are some #geraldoapologies from the Twittersphere:
@goldietaylor Listen, I was just trying to help you help you. #GeraldoApologies
@citizen_coyote I’m sorry that you mistook me for a serious political commentator. #geraldoapologies
@JeffMacIsHere “My sincerest apologies for any pain I caused in my heroic attempt to save people from a thing that isn’t the problem.” #GeraldoApologies
@fourchickens mt @tanehisi I apologize for pointing out that your fashion choices are responsible for a wannabee cop killing your son. #geraldoapologies
@tanehisi I apologize for presenting such a brilliant argument that you were unable to appreciate it #geraldoapologies
@lattershed I’m sorry that you are not The One and cannot stop bullets in midair. #geraldoapologies
@Carlaschatter I should’ve said that I struggle w/ being irrelevant. I wanted attention but b/c I’m stupid…it backfired. Sorry! #geraldoapologies
Will this help or hurt his brand? It will probably boost his Fox crowd street cred!
